History

The Archives Ministry of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 2010.  Its purpose was to preserve the rich history of the church from its inception to the present and beyond. Mrs. Ruth White saw this vision, and with Rev. William F. Wright’s blessing, began to organize this ministry.

The ministry was then organized, with the following members: Sis. Ruth White, Sis. Josephine Smith, Sis. Shirley Wright, Sis. Linda Johnson, (liaison) Sis. Michelle Williams, Sis. Danessa Walker, and Sis. Cassandra Rodgers.  Bro. Dan Ferguson was our Deacon and Min. Farlicher Earl Kornegay was our first Minister Liaison. Sis. Ruth White served as the first President.

As the ministry grew, new members joined, including Sis. Sandra Hamlett, Sis. Bobbye Tate, Sis. Kathy Sims, Sis. Jackie Inyama, Sis. Rosetta Townsend, Sis. Joyce Baugham, Bro. Barry Avent, Sis. Maybelle Williams, Sis. Theresa Hargraves and Sis Rhonda Woods.

Currently, additional new members joined including Sis. Tina Howard, Sis. Wanda Turner, Sis. Frances Ferguson, Sis. Jocelyn Clayton and our new minister liaison is Rev. Lawson Butler.  Our beloved forever members who are now gone but not forgotten are Sis. Cassandra Rodgers, Sis. Josephine Smith and Sis. Shirley Wright.

The Archives ministry meets every fourth Tuesday at 5:30pm April-September and the third Wednesday at 12:30pm October-March for the purpose of sorting, organizing, assembling, managing records, pictures, and newspaper articles, for the preservation of the church’s history.  The Archives Ministry also stores ministry programs and activities, obituaries, weddings, anniversaries, digital reports, etc., for public access of church members and the community. The various ministries of New Zion are encouraged to continue sending in their activities to be stored and used for record keeping for future generations to view and remember.

During anniversaries, Family and Friends Day, National Night Out and other church activities, the Archives Ministry will at times display items from the past, present, and current events for public viewing.

The New Zion Missionary Baptist Church Archives Ministry has a unique motto and theme to describe our goal:

Our motto is “Bringing the past Forward” and our theme is “Divine Design with God in Mind.”

The Archives Ministry welcomes any new members who would like to join.
